Chapter 12 - Gothic and Late Middle Ages

The Bubonic Plague, also know as "The Black Death", is know to be one of the worse plagues to ever effect the world.

The Black Death was a very painful death. This disease effected your body in three ways: bubonic, or infected lymph nodes; pneumonic, or infected lungs; and septicemic, or infected blood. The Black Death caused abscesses, or buboes (hints the name "the bubonic plague") in the armpits or groin lymph nodes, filling them with pus and turning the body black (hints the name "The Black Death"). This horrible disease is believed to have spread from fleas, Europe was very dirty during this time so it was almost impossible to find a house or person that didn't have fleas. This plague was so horrible and fast spreading that it only took five years to kill 25 million people, that was one-third of Europe's population at that time

During the time of The Black Death religious figures blamed the plague on the massive amount of sinners and heretics that were disobeying God's word. This help the catholic church keep people under their control and helped bring in money by selling indulgences to protect their souls from hell. Some historians and scientist in present times believe that the Earth has ways of protecting it's self from being destroyed and that the plague was a way to thin out Earth population and growth to slow down human's need of destroying mother nature. If you look at history before and after The Black Death, you can see the trend of Earth protecting it's self from humans. In ancient times there was the great flood and if you look at modern times you can claim that hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, and even modern disease are used by Earth to thin out populations. So in my own person opinion, I believe that nature defends it's self from humans through natural disasters and disease. If nature didn't defend it's self man would have destroyed this Earth already.
